Geotechnical Investigation
Construction Observation and Testing Services
AKA found the site of the planned 6500-square-foot building to be free of significant geologic hazards and identified expansive onsite soils as a geotechnical concern. AKA recommended supporting the buildings on deepened spread footings bearing on compacted fill or natural soil. AKA provided comprehensive geotechnical services during construction of the new building and associated soil slopes, retaining walls, and subsurface utilities.

Surface Fault Rupture Hazard Evaluation
The Early Learning Center site is close to the Hayward fault and within a State of California Alquist-Priolo seismic hazard zone for earthquake faulting. AKA worked with William Lettis & Associates to evaluate the potential for fault rupture by excavating a 320-foot-long exploratory trench across the site. The trench excavation satisfactorily demonstrated the absence of tectonic faults. On this basis, the site was shown to have a low to negligible potential for fault rupture, allowing the design and construction of the facility to proceed.
