K-12 Schools

K-12 SchoolsAKA has extensive experience conducting geotechnical investigations and providing construction-phase services for new California K-12 public school campuses. K-12 school projects typically involve a broad range of improvements and can include extensive site grading, mitigation of geologic hazards, roadways, retaining walls, and many different types of buildings. Public safety is paramount in school construction, and the State of California mandates that all potential geologic hazards be thoroughly evaluated and mitigated at new school campuses. AKA’s  recent experience includes school campus projects where geotechnical mitigation was needed, and AKA’s reports and mitigation designs were reviewed and approved by the State of California without exception. AKA also works closely with school districts through on-call contracts to evaluate geologic hazards, provide geotechnical consultation, and conduct investigations for specific building and infrastructure improvement projects. Colleges

CollegesAKA has extensive experience conducting geotechnical investigations and providing construction-phase services for California college campuses. AKA’s projects have involved college campuses located within State of California Alquist-Priolo seismic hazard zones for earthquake faulting. Identifiying geologic hazards in order to maintain public safety is paramount with school construction. Onsite expansive soils have also been a primary geotechnical concern at many of the college campus sites; in order to mitigate the adverse effects of expansive soils, various foundation and drainage alternatives were provided. University and Research

University and ResearchAKA has extensive experience conducting geotechnical investigations and providing construction-phase services for universities and research facilities. In this specialized sector, public safety is a primary concern. AKA engineers are familiar with state regulations and codes pertaining to the design and construction of California public schools and have successfully implemented geotechnical mitigation designs to allow the safe development of challenging sites. AKA currently has special consulting relationships with two of Berkeley’s most prestigious institutions: the University of California, Berkeley Campus, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Through master agreements we have provided geotechnical services to these two institutions for new capital improvement projects involving buildings, slope repairs, roadway improvements, and retaining structures. We also routinely provide on-call consultation to facility and capital improvements department personnel on a variety of geotechnical, geologic, seismic, and regulatory issues. Learn more »
